Extend your safari to Kilimanjaro
Take Your Tanzania Adventure to New Heights
- Day 0 – Depending on whether this is a pre-safari, post-safari or standalone adventure, pickup and transportation arrangements will be finalized at booking.
Day 1- Simba Campsite: In the morning, after breakfast, our team will pick you up at your lodge and transfer you to the Rongai Park Gate, a journey taking approximately 4-5 hours. Upon arrival, embark on a slow trek through the dense rainforest towards Simba Camp for 3 hrs. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of lush greenery and towering trees, which attract a variety of wildlife, including black and white Colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, baboons, and numerous bird species.
Day 2 – Third Cave Camp: After breakfast, you’ll depart from Simba Camp, trekking about 8 kilometers (5 miles) to Third Cave. The hike takes approximately 4-6 hours through heather and Moorland zone terrain with gradual ascents, offering stunning views of Kilimanjaro. Upon reaching Third Cave, located at 3,800 meters (12,500 feet), you’ll set up camp, rest, acclimatize, and enjoy dinner.
Day 3 – Kibo Hut Camp: After breakfast, with your picnic lunch, continue your trek to Kibo Hut Camp. Today’s journey takes you through the stunning alpine desert zone, covering the distance to Kibo Hut in about 4 hours. Upon arrival at Kibo Hut (4,720m), enjoy dinner and settle in for an overnight stay.
Day 4 – Uhuru Peak-Horombo Hut Camp: At midnight, enjoy refreshing tea and cookies before starting your ascent to Uhuru Peak. The trek to the summit takes approximately 6-7 hours. You’ll navigate through the stunning alpine desert and glacier zones, reaching Gilman’s Point (5,685m) in about 5-6 hours. After a brief rest, continue for another 2 hours along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, where you’ll have about 20 minutes to take photos and celebrate your achievement.
Afterward, descend back to Kibo Hut, which takes about 3-4 hours. Once at Kibo Hut, relax for 2 hours before enjoying breakfast. Finally, descend to Horombo Hut campsite, taking around 3 hours for the journey. End the day with dinner and an overnight stay at Horombo hut
Day 5 – Marangu Gate: After breakfast, begin your descent to Marangu Park Gate, completing the journey in about 6 hours. Upon arrival, enjoy picnic lunch at the gate. After lunch, meet your van for a comfortable 2-hour transfer to Arusha
